5/30/2023 0 Comments 3d clock animation![]() This requires knowledge about how the model will be used later, since the typology affects the behavior of the model down the line (Alias, 2007). The first decision to make before the modeling process begins, is deciding what kind of geometry type to use. In the following, I will go through the workflow process of modeling, animating lighting and rendering involved in creating the animation film for this clock. This means the final animation look realistic, since the individual cogwheels will rotate at the correct speed ratio. This clockwork is of course quite simple, but most importantly is the fact that the proportions and number of cogs on each cogwheel is true to reality. Figure 2 shows the screenshot reference, which I imported as an imageplane into Maya. So, I have used a screenshot of a 2D animation from a functioning online clock. However, given the complexity and interplay of cogwheels I would still need a reference in order make the final animation turn like a real clockwork. Therefore I chose to aim a bit lower and go for a very simple clockwork type of model. Such timepieces are actually insanely complex pieces of engineering. Of course, I did not realize this until after I started researching for timepiece blueprints. Ideation Processįor a novice like myself, trying to create something as comprehensive as the above renditions would obviously have been mission impossible. The purpose of my final animation is meant for web-based presentations – quite thinkable for educational purposes or perhaps just for a general presentation of the model. In essence, I wanted a neutral setting where the only thing, which matters was the clock on display. ![]() a short animation with all the focus aimed directly towards the mechanical elements of the timepiece. Right from the get go, I knew I wanted to create a presentation type animation in the same style as L&S’s i.e. I think the animations from Lange & Söhne are quite inspirational since they contain a lot of complex moving parts and stunning texturing. Figure 1 shows a screenshot from some of these animation movies. During this project I got to play around with some clockworks and I was introduced to some truly amazing 3D animations created by the German watch producer A. This fascination and interest for the mechanical clock originally stems from a web project I created for the Danish Watchmaker School some years ago. I guess these mechanics are just appealing to the engineering- geek inside of me. What I find especially fascinating about mechanical clocks is the perfect orchestration of the many cogwheels and parts working in perfect unison. The presented combination of the old technology of mechanical clocks and the modern capabilities of 3D animation is my personal celebration of both of these wonderful technologies. This article is about the creation of a 3D animation featuring the mechanical clock in all of its wonderful glory. The fact that you can generate realistically looking animations from simple bits (ones and zeros), is nothing short of an amazing achievement. What makes 3D special is the way objects can be simulated with its twists, bends and surfaces whilst appearing in a perspective view. Of course a lot has happened since then, but the basic principles and techniques introduced in this movie still remains the basis for the kind of 3D rendering, which is done in video games and movies today. Allegedly, the first digital 3D rendered film was produced as late as 1972 (Nerdplusart, 2011). In fact, the development of the steam engine and thus the industrial revolution, were explicitly made possible by the precision engineering of the mechanical clock (Scientific American, 2012).Īlthough not quite as old as the clock, 3D graphics is quite fascinating too. The spring made it possible to manufacture small and portable clocks. The fun however, really started in the 16th century, when the spring-driven mechanical clocks were invented. Back then, these things where huge contraptions who relied on bells to tell the time. The mechanical clock especially, has influenced society in unprecedented manners, right from the earliest mechanical clocks, which dates all the way back to the 14th century. I love clocks! These fantastic timekeepers are without a doubt one of mankind’s greatest innovations.

Talk to the Grobo at the doorway to the north, who needs you to move some crates for him. Run over and attack the Groboclone by the gate, then use his key to head through the gate. Now head west under the archway to find the port area. Stop the running Rabbibunny to order him a drink, then talk to him again to learn that Zoe was taken to the port. Head upstairs and talk to the Grobo sitting down - he will talk to you if you buy him a drink. Leave and go to the tavern, which is a two-storey building along the east side of town. Search the rest of the house for lots more items while you are here. Now you can search the cabinet right here to get your magic tunic and ball of power. Wait here until Zoe is taken away and the Groboclone has left. Quickly head to the room to the south, and switch to discreet mode, then crouch down behind the tall cabinet. Now head south until you meet Zoe just outside your house - you will automatically follow her inside. Quickly run out of the store before you are killed by a Groboclone. Once inside, quickly run over to the pharmacist and kill him, then search the shelves just to the right and pick up the bottle of syrup. Next head down the slopes to the main ground level, and enter the pharmacy which is just to the west. Collect everything from here, then go back up to the surface. The desire to escape can be seen in numerous texts by Alfred Bester, but the ways in which Bester engages with the psychology of escape in “Hobson’s Choice” (1953) and “Disappearing Act” (1953) are particularly relevant when examining his work through the lens of Sehnsucht. In this article I explore the way in which Sehnsucht highlights this connection between time travel, escapism, and fantasy within Science Fiction. ![]() Science Fiction’s ability to literalise the metaphor can make desires for an alternative life less unattainable due to the genre’s capacity to fulfil longings that would normally reside outside of reality, especially when these fantasies are centred around escaping one’s current time period. Considering these aspects of how Sehnsucht is meant to function psychologically, the relationship to Science Fiction is an interesting one, especially as it pertains to time travel. ![]() Sehnsucht in psychology is defined by Dana Kotter-Grühn et al in “What is it we are longing for? Psychological and demographic factors influencing the contents of Sehnsucht (life longings)” (2009) as a desire for alternative “experiences of life” which focus on “fantasies about ideal, alternative realities” (428). Though originally derived from eighteenth century German Romanticism and present in cultural and literary spheres since then, the concept of Sehnsucht, or life-longings, has only been explored within psychology since around 2007. 5/30/2023 0 Comments Dave and busters powercard balance![]() Power Hour starts after the first Power Card swipe. The puzzles vary in difficulty you’ll encounter ones that are fairly easy or ones that are challenging and make you scratch your head as to why you can’t figure it out. The gameplay is simple as it’s a point and click adventure yet it can get quite repetitive of finding items and solving puzzles, the added difficulty to the game is trying to make the right choice of good and evil as it can effect your overall outcome of the game. The characters you encounter add to the visual representation of a dark and bleak world with only some of them that seem quite hopeful, you never become truly familiar with a character as there time on screen is short. The visual representation and story telling of this game is astounding as you can submerse yourself into the shoes of the protagonist as you try to find your identity and purpose. With that being said the sound effects are simple yet match the action flawlessly. Tormentum Dark Sorrow Review Strange lands, Horrific Sights, and Questionable Creatures. You can feel anxious in one scene as you’re trying to figure out what to do and cautious in the next as to attempt to find a solution to a dangerous obstacle. There’s roughly 73 scenes in total and in each scene there’s music that fits the atmosphere perfectly. The game takes roughly 3 hours to complete once all tasks and puzzles are solved. There are some instances where you have to decide what’s good and what’s evil, whichever path you take will not effect your progression but will play a factor in your outcome of the game. For example matching fire to water.Īs you progress through the game you’ll encounter characters that either have a task for you or want to help you with A lot of the time it’s a trial and error process, but with patience and critical thinking the puzzle can be easily solved! Each puzzle has it’s own uniqueness from connecting the same coloured pipes to a memory game where you have to match the opposite tile. Some puzzles can be quite simple to figure out, others can be extremely challenging. There are a lot of puzzles in this game and a few of them require a missing piece or clues in your surroundings of how to solve them. What I found really interesting in the game is that the items got their own scene to just pick up and the level of detail is just as amazing as the scene you’re picking it up from. To carry your items you have a backpack and to jot down clues you have your notepad which if your protagonist finds a clue to a puzzle he will sketch it down. In order to find these clues, look for anything suspicious and out of the ordinary. Most items can be identified with a little white puff of smoke or glare indicating that you can pick them up as clues to help solve your upcoming puzzles. You have to be aware of everything in your surroundings of each scene as you don’t want to miss any items or certain clues that will help you progress through the game. The one thing that I love about this game is that your character doesn’t move, only your camera does with your cursor which makes you appreciate the art in each scene. Nginx can sit "in front of" web servers, which may be other Nginx installations or web applications. The following use-cases are some popular ones for using Nginx as a cache server: In addition to its ability to serve static files directly, Nginx can act as a cache server - what this means is that Nginx can cache content received from other servers. This is a common architecture, but users of PHP might be used to Apache + Apache's mod_php, which puts PHP "inside of" Apache, making it seem like everything is in one magical (but less efficient) place. However, since Nginx can proxy requests to other web servers or to applications (via HTTP, FastCGI and uWSGI), it's commonly used to increase performance for serving static files while proxying application requests to other processes. This is a typical use case of a web server, rather than a cache server. Nginx handles static content well on it's own. This is especially true if you happen to use Nginx Plus, which comes with support and extra features. If your traffic warrants adding a layer of infrastructure for caching, but not the overhead of introducing new technologies that need to be learned and maintained, Nginx might be a better fit. While Varnish is a pure web cache with more advanced cache-specific features than Nginx, Nginx may still be a perfect match for you. Nginx can also act as a "true" cache server when placed in front of application servers, just like you might with Varnish. This is good when the static files are on the same server as Nginx. ![]() Nginx can serve static content (directly) very, very efficiently. However, there are two things to know about Nginx: Many administrators reach for Varnish, often before it's really needed. It includes regular programming exercises in R, python and Stata. It covers the foundations of causality (i.e., counterfactuals), potential outcomes, causal graphs (i.e., Judea Pearl) and selection on observables, regression discontinuity, and instrumental variables. This workshop is about 90% design-based causal inference and about 10% model based. Here's some information about my workshops and other speakers planned in 2023. I personally teach two courses regularly on this platform: a 4-day course on causal inference and a 4-day course on difference-in-differences and synthetic control. Mixtape Sessions is my way of trying to democratize causal inference by offering courses on causal inference related methodologies (including R, julia and workflow courses) at low prices for people residing in low income countries ($1), students, predocs, postdocs and residents of middle income countries ($50/persons) and $595 for everyone else. On a nearly monthly basis, I offer workshops at my online platform, Mixtape Sessions, which is my way of trying to bridge students, faculty, and other professionals who need to retool in econometric theory and applied econometrics practices centering around "causal inference". These "personalized workshops” can be worked out directly with my amazing assistant (and nephew!), Allen Cunningham who can share with you previous syllabi and course descriptions as well as talk about my schedule and pricing. Sometimes departments and firms may prefer that I come to them, either in person or over zoom. Mixtape Sessions is my own personal effort to correct that by creating a bridge to this material who needs it and wants it through online and in-person workshops by me and other selected teachers. But I also think it has been a somewhat siloed area - siloed both within selected fields (like labor, health, development economics) but also academia (and economics in particular) more generally. ![]() I wrote my book, Causal Inference: the Mixtape, and teach online and in-person workshops to "democratize causal inference" because I believed and still believe that causal inference is a crucially important topic and that everyone working with data should learn more about it.
